I am booked at Brickell Bay for 3 nights. Saw more than a few bad reviews of dirty rooms, roaches, etc. While the price is right I don't want to share my room with roaches.

Looking at pricelines express deals. Im pretty sure 3 star casino is the holiday inn ($371) and 4 star is showing marriott, hyatt and hilton ($473). Im fine with either, don't really like the no cancellation or changes but don't feel like paying $700 for 3 nights going through regular booking

has anyone done the express deals?

I've never booked an express deal.
Have you checked the hotel websites directly? Sometimes, their prices are better, as is their cancellation policy.
Does your timeshare place have an owners rental board? Maybe someone is renting out a few days.

Linda, remember this little place? Not sure what your dates are for pricing, they do have a studio ocean view. Pros and cons but you're downtown on the beach, (not sure what the beach set up is, haven't done my full research yet  ). Plan your meet ups with Ann and Judi and others while you're downtown and any downtown restaurants.

If you stayed at Surfside you wouldn't need a car for those days. Nice spot! Great HH a short walk down the beach :D

express deals are very inexpensive and they don't tell you the hotel until you book. there's no changes or cancellations.

Karen I forgot about surfside. if i had a car i would def stay there. this year i won't have a car until i go to my TS. being solo and without a car would like to be someplace where i can walk to places for dinner. Ann, is it safe to walk into town at night?

Yes it is safe. It is along Linear Park which has many walkers in the evening. Also good lighting and on main road so not isolated. You are a few steps away from Pinchos (the one out on the dock), literally out the front door of Surfside. And Reflexions (great HH from 4-6) is a very short walk away and they serve dinner. Not fancy food but good...including burgers, pasta, steak etc.. If I am on the island I will gladly pick you up and we can go anywhere you want for dinner! :D (even if you don't stay at Surfside  )

Reading through the reviews the only thing that really might bother me is being there on the weekends with the traffic and potential beach parties noise (drunk girls can be so loud  ) from the locals. Not that drunk tourist girls aren't loud  I think this is pre your Saturday checkin so you may experience it on Friday night. But it's also not during Carnival/Easter with the potential for a louder crowd.
I know at LaQuinta they had beach parties on the weekend in front of the resort but I enjoyed their music from my balcony and couldn't hear it inside. Someone has to take one for the team and check it out
Good luck finding new digs or taking a chance on Brickell.

Families and others gather to the right (as you face the water) of Surfside on Sundays...sometimes Saturday nights. It should be fine. Think the party noise at Brickell would be worse

Or would you want to sit in your room and do nothing or have fun? I know my choice!

Our cousins and uncles have stayed at Surfside several times and have really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to trying Surfside one of these trips.
Karen and I have stayed at Brickel, Karen just said depending on price she would stay there again, her friend just stayed there said all was good.

Linda, we will be on the island when you arrive, and like Ann we are more than willing to take you to dinner anywhere. I think I would prefer Surfside over Brickel. Too much very noisy places surrounding it now.

thanks everyone, i pick up my car and check into Riu on Friday so noise won't be an issue.

Tom, the recent reviews for brickell on trip advisor are really bad, i know every place has bugs, just dont want to see them. last year i found one dead on his back under my bed at riu......key word dead.

Barb said i should just stay with them at the divi. normally I stay within walking distance of the rest of the group until we check into Riu but i am tempted by surfside. Now if kenny would just come the entire time it wouldnt be an issue
