Overall, we enjoyed the experience of taking the boat to Ren Island & having dinner in a lovely setting. It was a breezy evening and we got a table for 2 with our own private palm tree close to the shore where gentle waves were rolling in. They had an entertainer playing a keyboard & singing nice songs. DW had tried calling several times to make reservations when we were in Aruba last year, but no one answered the phone - when she called the front desk, they told her to keep trying that number (to no avail) - she gave up. Before we left this year, DW found that she could make the reservation on Facebook & got a confirmation. But when we showed up, the girl checking off names didn't have us listed - but they allowed us to go. When we arrived on the Island, we got a welcome drink which was a fruit punch (I didn't detect any alcohol). When I saw the chairs at the tables, they looked like chairs for elementary school & were not very comfortable. DW had a Margerita & liked it; I ordered a Manhattan straight-up & thought it was watered down. This was a 4-course dinner & the printed menu didn't exactly match what was served. First course was listed as a "Citrus fruit ceviche, tomato confit & crumbled goat cheese in a crispy galette" - we got a very small fish ceviche (2 pieces of fish). Second course was listed as "Classic beef carpaccio with arugula, parmesan shaving, pink salt, and balsamic glaze" – it looked like beef, but tasted more like tuna – the parmesan cheese was mozzarella. For main course we had choice of Red Snapper or New Zealand lamp chops (they didn't use the word "rack" in the description). We both ordered the Red Snapper which was listed as "Chili lime and cumin crusted snapper with lentil treacle, vegetable caponata" - we got the snapper filet with a coating (didn't taste like cumin) that had mashed potatoes, some bok choy, and a slice of zucchini for sides. Dessert was listed as "Lemon pie with a raspberry mousse" - we got a lemon pie topped by meringue in a raspberry sauce with some blueberries. DW doesn't like anything raw, so I ate both plates of the carpaccio. We shared a bottle of Love Pinot Noir with dinner. Biggest bummer of the night for DW was that we didn't get to see the flamingos - guess they either lock them up for the night or maybe they go to sleep early. The boat leaves for the Island at 7 PM, so it was dark when we arrived for dinner.
