As usual, we flew out of Newark. Not so usual, we flew on American with a change in Miami.

On the way down, there was no issues. We arrived on time, and met with David from Tropic to pick up our car. We drove to the Surf Club and were able to get into the larger side of our two bedroom villa early, while they finished up cleaning the other side.

This year it was just my wife, my son and I, so we really didn't venture out to all parts of the island as we feel we need to when we bring others with us.

The main road was under construction for most of the time that we were there making it a little difficult to get to some of the places we wanted to get to (Superfoods, for one) until we got the hang of getting around the construction. Even then, there was secondary road work that made for some interesting trips.

Most of our days were spent pretty much the same way. We would get up, have breakfast in the room, head down to the pools or beach for a while, go back to the room for lunch, back to the pool, go out for dinner, and then relax in the evening.

I have already done a bunch of restaurant reviews, and if you have looked at them, you can tell that we are not really into the high priced restaurants on the island. Our son is still a fussy eater, and it really doesn't make sense to go out for an expensive meal when all he really wants is chicken nuggets or a grilled cheese.

My son did go to a golf camp at Tierra del Sol for three days while we were there. It is more of a glorified daycare, but they do go to the practice range at hit balls, putt on a practice green, and play a couple of holes each day. He actually wanted to do this (he did one day last year) and had a good time.

This year, my son and I have become interested in geocaching. We spent some of our time on the island searching for geocaches that others have left. I think we found about 13 or 14 while we were there.

We did meet up with some of the local Swamp Monkeys during our vacation. We met Dick and Judi at the Tropicana where my son was reminded that kids under 18 are not allowed on the casino floor. Judi went with us to Baby Beach, and then we went with her to a bar near her house and then back to her house for lunch. We met up with Dick and Judi again at the Tropicana and this time Anne came as well. It was fun to meet up with people that you spend a lot of time conversing with on these boards, but don't get to see in real life all that much.

Our flight out was eventful in that when we got to the airport at 7:00 am, they told us that the flight out would be delayed and we would miss our connection in Miami. they gave us three choices. 1) Take a later connection that would get us into Newark after midnight. 2) Take a connection that would take us to La Guardia and find our way to Newark. 3) Fly 5 hours later on United, but get in at 7 pm. We took option 3, and eventually left after waiting in the restaurant until we could check in much later.

We made it to Newark, we drove home the next morning, and now I plan for our next trip.
