We flew on the nonstop United flight out of Newark as we do most years and had no issues. We collected our luggage, Hans from Tropic was waiting and took us to their offices and we were off with our car.

Originally, we had planned on staying in Aruba for one day, going to Curacao for five, and then returning to Aruba for our week at the Surf Club. With the issues that Insel Air has been having maintaining a reasonable schedule, we decided to cancel that portion of our trip.

Instead, I rented an additional week at the Ocean Club. This is the first time that we have been back to the Ocean Club since our first time on the island. It definitely has a different vibe than the Surf Club. No need to get up early if you want to be out at the pool and just generally more laid back.

For our time at both the Ocean Club and Surf Club, our days were reasonably similar. We get up and have some breakfast in the room, head out to the pool for a couple of hours, come back in for lunch, out again to the pools or the beach, and then out for dinner.

We managed a couple of side trips during our two weeks. We took a day to head down to Baby Beach and do some swimming and snorkeling there. We drove up to the California Lighthouse and took the tour inside it. We also met with Dick and Judi for an afternoon of drinking and talking at Champions.

Our son had a five hour golf lesson at Tierra Del Sol. It cost $65 and he really enjoyed it. I think some parents use it as a five hour daycare, and my son said that there were some kids in his group that had no interest in golfing, but he enjoyed the time there and said he would like to do it again. He was very hot after five hours playing outside, though.

We had one last day of vacation after checking out of the Surf Club. We stayed downtown at the Renaissance Marina. We had never been there and it was interesting to stay in Oranjestad for an evening instead of being on Palm Beach. We wandered around the city and did a little shopping and dining.

I already did restaurant reviews for the places we ate while we were there. We are not foodies, so we don't tend to hit the higher price restaurants on the island, and we have to find places that our chicken nugget eating son can be amused.

After our two weeks, we headed back to the airport, dropped off our car, and flew back to Newark.

Only 11 months until our next visit.
