Trip report June/July 2017:
Arrived at the end of June and went right through Customs EZ Flow Pass gates in a few minutes. Bags were already on the carousel. We were met by friends who live on the island full time and arrived at Playa Linda a few minutes later at 3:30PM. Didn’t expect the room to be ready and it wasn’t. Spent time catching up with friends at Beach Bar and Carlito’s beach bar. First meal later was the usual at Smokey Joes. It’s fast, convenient and was good. We spent most of the time on beach each day relaxing and socializing with friend who come down at the same time as we do and others that work and live there.
The beach was clean, only issue notice a lot more ants this year. The ocean was not bad. If you entered the water from Chickee# 72 and southward, the water was clear and did not smell. The area near the pier is still nasty. I was amused watching people letting their kids jump from the pier as the boats were coming into dock there and just missing them.(Just don’t get some people). While laying on the beach, I heard a familiar sound, which was the sound of a gun shot. Got up to see a police officer trying to arrest and rather large man. She shot at him in the ground and he gave up. Whatever works I guess. Then that same evening while leaving the Playa Linda for dinner, we watched a person drive from the driveway of the Playa Linda into a Palm tree, which set off his airbags. Never boring. Went to a fund raiser for ARF at Sopranos bar one night which was nice. Went to the usual restaurants we hit every year but added Legends (Scott and Leslie of Scotts Brats new place). It was nice, and food was good. Went on a Friday night and they had a great band playing on the patio. (Had Prime Rib which was good). Also tried a new Mexican restaurant called Chihuahua, which is located behind the Hooters and across from Rembrandts. Food was good and drinks were huge. Casinos were good to me only to have the hot water when I got home to take it away again Our friends daughter got married on the island so we attended a few events with them. One was the comedy show at the Marriott. (Ray Ellin show). The show was great. It had 4 comics and was over 2 ½ hours long. They had everybody in tears (Especially Topmom and Staten Island Frank) Weather was good but did have a lot of morning rain which always cleared up. Leaving was an adventure. From Aruba we had a flight crew but no plane and were 1 ½ hrs. late leaving, only to find our connecting flight in Houston was delayed. They delayed that flight in Houston 4 times, due to having a plane but no pilot) (Got to love United). 2 hours later finally made it back home. Great time and can’t wait to go back next year, maybe this time for a month.
