My wife and I just returned from our annual trip (18th) to Aruba. I don’t normally write a trip report, but under the present circumstances I thought it would be a good idea. We left Boston on Saturday, July 11th on Jet Blue at 9:30, airport appeared to be much less congested than in previous years and we breezed through security. Flight was about ½ full and middle seats were blocked out. We felt comfortable on the plane knowing that most of the passengers were tested for COVID before departure and everyone wore masks. We left a few minutes early and arrived a few minutes early.

Upon arrival in Aruba everything went smoothly, my COVID test (PCR) did not upload properly so I was taken out of line escorted to the medical area where we produced the paper copies of our negative results, it was approved, and then we were escorted to an area where I completed paper work to be refunded the $150 . (BTW we were there for 18 days and I checked my bank statement and within the 10 days it was credited). Aruba actually handled everything quite well and we were out of the airport in about 45-60 minutes.

Hans and Tropic were waiting for us, off we were to Casa del Mar. After settling into our room, we made our trip to Super Foods, stocked up on provisions. We usually have breakfast in the room and reservations everywhere else. (I will be writing restaurant reviews later). For the 1st week we went to the beach everyday, my one observation was it appeared to be like the old Aruba, very quiet, resort only 1/4 of capacity. The pool was under construction, but we didn’t mind, (in 18 years I have never been in the pool, I am an ocean guy). For my wife and I it was fantastic, peaceful, quiet, we were both able to complete reading several books. I noticed how clear the water was…even had a turtle swim by me.

One side trip that week deserves mentioning…we went to the Murano glass shop in Ayo and the artist (Gulliono) was trained in Murano, Italy, moved to Venezeula, then to Aruba. My wife and I have visited Murano Italy and appreciate fine glass work. Do yourself a favor go there..his work is incredible. I might add every bit as good and much less expensive than in Murano Italy.

All the Arubans were happy to see us and very grateful that we were there. To all those who post negative comments about not going to Aruba….please spare me…..these people welcomed us with open arms because they need our tourist dollars….not the government, but the people.

We then moved to Costa Linda for our 2nd week. The same situation, quiet, peaceful, crystal clear water. Eagle Beach is amazing. Our friends from Connecticut joined us for the 2nd week and we rented a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom suite on the 4th floor. Amazing views every night, incredible unit. Same situation, the staff was beyond attentive, friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Our next move was really interesting….every year I try to book some place new for a few days, (we never travel on weekends). I booked at Courtyard by Marriott which when we arrived it was closed…..so I booked at an old standby MVC……when I went there it was closed……on to Amsterdam Manor. Success! We had stayed at Amsterdam Manor previously, in a studio too small for our liking, never went back. This year a 1 bedroom suite, more to our liking, had a wonderful stay. I love the amenities at Amsterdam Manor and they are so accommodating.

Crying room day, dropped off car, breezed through terminal. My friend had his sandwich confiscated because he had tomato on it, we laughed about it all the way home. Smooth flight on one of Jet Blue’s new Airbus 321s. Arrived in Boston at 8:15, picked up luggage, shuttle to hotel all in less than 45 minutes, 2 hour drive home to Connecticut…..smooth as silk…easy peasy! Best trip ever.

Please excuse my soap box….I thought all the things Aruba has done to make there island safe were not only to protect their people, but as tourist it protects us as well. Living in a state (CT) that made controlling the virus a priority, I appreciated all the things Aruba did to make us safe, masks, sanitizers, hand washing stations, tests before we left and insurance. It allowed us to feel safe and comfortable. So, if you are not coming to Aruba because you are afraid, that is OK, I understand. But, please don’t write negative comments about things you don’t undertstand. Lastly, one of the reasons I have continued to coming to Aruba is the people. I consider Aruba my home away from home! I can’t wait to see you next year!
