Y'all deserve to be happy, whether GA or FL, condo or separate home.
Good luck with getting remodeling done!

Thanks everyone. We've been at the house all day doing yard work, watching paint dry ( ) and making the kitchen table a joint project with Mom.

As far as the Uhaul leak goes..... It rained for several hours of the trip on Thursday. We got to condo and went to get our suitcase out and realized it was wet..... realized there was lots of stuff wet. We scrambled and got the Uhaul dealer here agree to let us get it under roof at his storage place. When we got there and opened it up, we realized it was really bad. We had to off load about 1/2 the contents into another uhaul so we could get access to the antiques sitting in water on the floor. We were able to raise them up w/ various life jackets, boat floats, etc. We took tons of pictures and even video of Mike's shoe splashing in the uhaul blankets we'd used to wrap furniture. By the time we unloaded on Friday afternoon, we didn't think it was too bad. However, we've noticed a few areas of damage. Mom is hoping to repair. We've started the claim process w/ Uhaul, but haven't finished the big form to fill out. There is no way to replace the pieces of furniture that were in my grandparents, parents, and our homes.... too many memories. Here are a couple pics from "Christmas past" to show the pieces. They just mean a lot to me.

Those are gorgeous pieces of furniture. I would be pis$$$ and not settle for just refinish. Money and refinish and lots of money. I would think you will get and appraisal of the furniture right?

I'm hoping we'll end up getting the rental for free. The furniture is irreplaceable, but honestly.... still useable. They aren't ruined by any means. We just need to add a little stain to a few areas, and should be fine. But... the stress/tears/energy/etc.... should get us something.

I would not just touch it up. Have a professional or two come in and give you and estimate of bringing them back to original condition and have Uhaul pay for it. Have them reconditioned. They have to many memories to just be touched up.

Congratulations on your new home. Condo living is hard especially if you like your privacy. Wishing you and Mike many years of happiness in your new home.
