This is a "formal" welcome to the Swamp Shelndon. Welcome to the group - as far as I know you are our first Kentucky Swamp Monkey. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Thanks, everyone! I posted a rather long-winded introduction, but somehow it never posted. Maybe over the character limit? I dunno. Anyway, thank you! Can't wait to get to know y'all a little better too!

Thank you SO MUCH! Happy to be a swamp monkey and looking forward to getting to know y'all as well.

My name is Don. My wife, Sheltina and I have been to Aruba a few times and cannot wait to get back! We have 2 boys. #1 is 16 & #2 is 14. I have been a "lurker" on the board since the months before our honeymoon in 2003, and a member for about 7 years (but still rather a lurker). I found out about the board from a former customer of mine when I sold advertising years ago.

A little about me: About a month ago, Sheltina was about to have gastric sleeve surgery (completed last Saturday the 20th of June). I'm about 50-75 lbs overweight and my #2 son is about 80-100 lbs overweight. So I decided to lose weight while she did, and help #2 lose some weight as well. And, you know, why have one goal and achieve huge success when you can have SEVERAL goals and fail at some (most) of them? So, I also decided to become self-employed. And get a home improvement loan. And enter vocal therapy. And completely re-purpose my basement. Etc. Etc. Etc. Anyway, about a week ago, on a whim, I navigated here during some wanderlust and anxiety about an approaching trip to paradise. When I saw this community as something I could belong to. I love the feeling of "family" here in the swamp. See, when I was growing up I was very lonely because I had a BUNCH of imaginary friends but they would only play with each other. Just kidding! Gotcha!

Sheltina is a lab supervisor for a large hospital here. And, she loves doing craft stuff. When we lost my dad several years ago, she took a bunch of his neckties and a bunch of my grandfather's that I had in storage and made a quilt out of them. It's quite beautiful and hanging in my mother's house.

I'm now a struggling self-employed wealth manager, insurance planner, and retirement income specialist. I also do some voice work on the side and do the P.A. Announcing for a few sports at the University of Kentucky. I'm a Rotarian, a deacon, a precinct poll worker, a Sunday School teacher, a coach, a recovering stand up comic, and an occasional poet. I love to laugh. I love a good burger, a good cigar, a good joke, a good movie, a good beer, a good bourbon, a good gin, and a good bloody Mary. I also love good conversation and good friends! And I LOOOOOOOVE Aruba!

Bon Dia, everyone!

-Don

Welcome to the Dark Side Don! I used to go back and forth to Michigan from here in the Southland on I-75, but several years ago gave it up for going north thru Louisville and Indianapolis. Never developed a fondness for I-75... hated Ohio.

Legend has it that I'm one of the 3 founders of the Swamp. Back in the day Michael, Xcraft, and myself developed "Pervolity" (perverse frivolity) and the Board commander (Richard) felt we needed to have our "own space" to keep from scaring potential Aruba visitors.... We would respond to questions like "Will anyone be on the island in August?" with "No, the island is closed in August." We also explained that you see very few seagulls, if any, because the monkeys eat them.... Lots of fun. Teri McHugh published a history "Tales of the Swamp" for one of our Pittsburgh parties. Those were the days.

But now, about 20 years later, it is one big family, sharing the joys and the heartaches of those in our community. We are family.

Welcome Don! Great to get a new swamp family member! Best wishes with your new decisions! You are a brave man. Nice to see a fellow rotarian in the swamp (although I gave up my membership due to too much work and too little time, but I still feel like a rotarian).
