I get a call yesterday in our room, Sue answered the phone, the manager Kevin of the Holiday Inn here wanted to speak to me about it  He apologized about the incident and wanted the persons name on who said I couldn’t sit underneath a palm tree and it was reserved for someone else, I told him I didn’t get his name. He did say he would be having a talk with all the beach guys about this. Guess I ruffled some feathers

Yes I could see your video and I liked it. You have handled this beautifully Ronnie....congrats! I would give Holiday Inn another chance...I think there are issues with this new law at many other resorts and I am impressed that the manager has come to you. Some resorts ignore their guests!

Yes I could watch it. Very interesting. I wouldn't go there just on principle that they charge $40.00 for a chickee. Every time I read or see things like this I appreciate CLBR more.

The "All Things Aruba" FB group had everyone posting about palapas last night - most are jokes

My main issue is charging for the palapas by some of the resorts. You pay so much to stay at these resorts and charging seems over the top in my opinion. It was this charging for the palapas on the public beach that got the government fed up.

True that the resort pays for erecting them and maintaining them....part of the price of doing business if you ask me for their guests staying there.

Ok, the beaches are public and the palapas on said public beach also become fair game for anyone even if not staying at the resort. The chairs and chaise loungers are not and are the property of the resort. To have to pay another $40 per day for a palapa would bother me. To try to move me from a palm tree would really take the cake! Glad you posted the video Ronnie. I was wondering if management was going to seek you out....lol.

Our first come first served policy at Costa Linda that has always been in effect and never a charge or reservation process has worked all these years.

We are lucky that we have enough palapas for the # of units at our resort.

If someone wants a palapa in a certain area on the beach or at the pool the guest gets up early to get that palapa. We ask that everyone observes the 2 hour rule and not leave a palapa for hours on end. Two hours is more than enough time to go have breakfast, lunch, swim in the ocean etc. We have security to keep tabs on this and we have very few problems. My husband and others we know are early risers and go down early and have their "quiet time" to discuss and solve all the world's problems....lol.

For those who get up later, because we have so many palapas, there is always something available. May not be beachfront or poolside, but there is something.

Now when the cruise ship people arrive to our north boundary and do not want to pay $40 to rent an umbrella and 2 chairs, we do have some issues from time to time. If a palapa is unoccupied they can use it but not our chairs/chaises.

I understand some like and want the reservation fee based system so they have their palapa for the day and can arrive whenever they feel like it because they paid for it. Just not something I would want to have to pay for.

It is also stated that some like the look of a wide open beach but that Aruba sun is very strong and it is unrealistic to be out there for hours and not have shade.

Came back to the room yesterday to a bottle of wine and cheese fruit platter. Also an invite to the Italian place here at no extra cost on them. Apparently he doesn’t know I’m on AI

This manager 'gets it'! He is doing what he can to make things right! I am all about good service...and he is providing good service. I would give him a nice letter for his file!

Cool. That's the manager I was referring to in another post. He was super nice to us last spring. When he found out I was battling a cold, he sent up some special Aruuban concoction of hot tea to make me feel better.
