Tom and I need new windows in our living room (now open concept space to kitchen & dining).

There is one West facing window that looks into our backyard - 100 percent privacy, as the yard is large
and beyond yard is the river. This window is at the end of our living room. We would be replacing a single
double hung window - so I imagine the difference in light/view will be big.

Do you have a bay window? Have you ever lived in a house with a bay window?
I'd love to hear your thoughts. :)

I lived in a house with a south side bay window. I positioned long triangular prisms across the tops of the wood trim so when the sun shone in, rainbows were all over the room :D

Your view sounds wonderful. I wouldn't want to obstruct it. The window I have is a Harvey which has a large picture window in the middle without decorative grids, which allows for an unobstructed view, and double-hung windows on each side that open up and down. I chose maintenance-free vinyl. (I had the crank out windows prior to this one, but really didn't like them. Personal preference.) It's quite the exercise trying to select the right window for you. Let us know what you choose.

Claire

We have a bay window and absolutely love it Patti......our kitties love it too for I have two cozy beds in it for them. We love our bay so much, I am seriously thinking of having one put in our bedroom window. :D
I love putting decorations in it for each holiday.
I say go for it......you will love yours too! :D

I love bay windows! Lets face it, I just love windows. The bigger the better.

My parent's house had a bay window in the front of the house for years until the windows were replaced about 15 years ago. We had one in our first home too, off of the back of the house. I've actually never liked them. Having said that, I know they are popular and the one we had was a cute nook to display photos. I'm sure whatever you choose will look awesome.

I'm with Linda on this one.
We had one growing up, a big one at the front of the house and I never liked it although the cats did.
When my brother bought and redid the house he hung 3 double hung windows instead, looks 100% better AND you can open the windows.
You can't with a bay window.

I've always wanted one, think they look so pretty, especially if you have something nice to look at. I do like to open windows though. Dars your pics are great!

Our bay has a big window in middle that does not open and two side windows that do....gives enough air. My best friend in NH just redid an older home...she put a bay over her sink in the kitchen...puts her small herb garden on the sill. she loves the bay...never had one before.

That’s what ours is like but the side windows are crank ones which I don’t like. It’s old and needs to be replaced soon. You’ll love the light!
