Can anyone tell me about Alexa and whether she would be of any use to me? I'm trying to think of something I can use for Christmas.

I myself do not trust Alexa. It's bad enough that you are tracked on your phone, Facebook and every other big tech device. To have them listening to every word in my house? No way.

We have Alexa.....and Love it!!!! Jim wants to get another one for our family room in the lower level of our house.
There are many times we want to know something and it's easier to ask her than to google it.
She'll tell you the weather, scores on games, birth dates of celebrities, etc. etc. She even tells cute jokes when asked.

I don't have the link but there is a great skit from SNL about seniors and Alexa. That being said...we don't have it and likely will not...."she" hears and has a record of what she hears in the house.....yikes!

Alexa was one of those things my niece had to have last Christmas , I think she used it for awhile for music , asking about the weather ,etc but the novelty has worn off and just another thing that collects dust !

My thought too

I ready an article (I believe in the WSJ, so reputable) that said someone was having a discussion about an item with another person & never asked Alexa to Google it or in anyway to look it up. Then the next day they were getting emails & adds on their web browser about that item!! Shows Alexa is listening all the time!

She is not welcome in my house! DH is in love with all of this new technology but I feel that "Big Brother is Watching". When DH looks up products on Google, they show up on my Google Newsfeed. I know exactly what he is buying before it is delivered! (I swear that he buys everything that he looks at)
But it got ridiculous when we bought white laundry room cabinets. Did not google it or anything, the exact cabinet showed up in our Daughter's Google Newsfeed the day after. Too much of a coincidence.......
just sayin

Ronnie, google something obscure. And then see if it comes over to Sue's Google Feed. It happens all the time for us. I know it sounds paranoid.

we got one and had it downstairs, used it mostly for music, its hooked up to our receiver and outdoor speakers. liked it so much i ordered another one for upstairs. I love it. Sometimes I'm laying in bed and am too lazy to look at the clock so i just ask her what time it is. I get the weather in the morning. Using her more and more. I order amazon stuff, use her as a timer, to control the thermostat. Easy to ask her than grab the laptop to look up stuff. I've never had anything from her show up in a newsfeed. Something I searched online yes, but not from Alexa.

We have Alexa, manly I use it for music.
I listen to Elvis gospel music, Broadway musical scores, all kinds of music.
Use as a kitchen timer, get weather. I have never seen anything on my Google feed connected to Alexa use.
We are boring probably not listening to us.
Larry bought one for a friend of his that lives alone,. so he would have someone to talk to. He loves her~~
