looking to update 2 of our bathrooms. nothing crazy, just replacing the construction grade vanity tops, faucets and a new shower door. went to lowes, picked out marble tops, a double and a single, new door and faucets.

double sink $439, labor 290
single sink $259 labor 244
shower door 344 labor 275
3 faucets $89 each

$1400 for material and $809 for labor. labor includes removing old, installing new. not taking away old (not a problem)

im wondering if a local plumber would be less expensive. or maybe we can do the small sink.

any thoughts?

It's worth asking and getting an estimate. Have you checked Nextdoor.com for your area. You can ask those kinds of questions for local referrals.

I'm still dealing with my shower doors after several months. $550 for doors and $450 to put them in. I'm picking them up when they come in and taking the old one out to save $100. This price is cheaper than the first price she quoted using a plumber, now it's just a general contractor. Kent which is like Lowes is providing the contractor. I figured since they are breakable and need to be sized I'd rather have Kent be responsible for the work than having to deal with a private contractor on my own. I hate having to pay the same price for fixture and the installation. Good luck

HD and Lowes are crazy expensive.
Ask around to your friends if they know a reliable contractor.
I know the front door we have was going to be $4k without install at HD, well we hired a local contractor who ordered and installed it for $2400.

We had to get custom made doors because the new shower was too big. We have a couple of stores in the area that specialize in shower doors. They also did the installation.

When I saw the title of this thread my first reaction was TMI !!!! Thinking back to my college days I remember my grandmother's letters, talking about the West End Birthday Club, which friends died, and that she was "regular...."

Like Tom, the title made me go: Huh? Hooking up new faucets and rains are fairly easy. As I recall, your home is newer, so most standard fittings can be used. Installing countertops, sinks and shower doors can be a bit complex and if DYI skills are not the best, the job is better done by a pro. Labor at 60% of materials is not bad, but have no idea what going rates are inNJ.

Good luck!
