Good morning! Warmer here last night only got down to 24° and when I took the trash out I could see water running out of the hose so it must be thawing now.

There is heat tape for sale in Florida? Wouldn't think that would be a big seller!

Even stranger: a snowbird friend in the Gainesville area reports the schools are closed for a SNEW DAY!

How does heat tape work? We've got some new water pipes into the house for fire sprinklers and George has been worried about them freezing. He's running heaters in the garage/work room.

Two types of heat tapes but both have to contact the pipe itself and are plugged into a 110V outlet. One wraps around the pipe, one style can loop back over itself the other cannot. The other style has contact points that should be touching the pipe. Both styles should be wrapped in insulation and if exposed to weather a water resistant covering. Check to see if the heat tape you are considering can be used on the type pipe you have installed.

Any good hardware store can help you out. Less sure of the kids in a big box store.

Thanks Shaggy. We have a friend who works at home depot - he's a retired plumber. We can ask him.

Can't get a much better resource than that!

Sorry you're feeling crappy again Shags, hope your chemo appts are over soon!
Kick ass!
Your mind is all there though with that answer!
You would have giggled at me this morning at Home Depot buying insulation covers for some pipes in the basement.
Not a single clue

My mind seems to be recovering pretty well (although some say I lost my mind some years ago); the issue is articulating thoughts in spoken and written word. Takes me a long time to type or say something!

That has to be so frustrating for you.
