A good customer of mine comes in today, his brother bought a $10 scratch lottery ticket from the same place I get mine, What does he win? 1 million dollars. I saw the ticket from a pic. Take a wild guess what he takes home after taxes here in the great state of Connecticut, $486,000  I would still take it!

That's what I thought...more than half? A million would be easier to share.

"According to the Canada Revenue Agency’s windfall rules, if you win money from a lottery, you do not have to report the winnings nor pay tax on those funds. The CRA has not instituted a cap or limit on these winnings. However, if your winnings earn interest, the interest amounts will be subject to taxation."

I guess I will need to spend it all if I win

CT is not alone...if you were to win in any of the other 49 states, I'd wager that you'd barely get 50% of the jackpot in cash.
I remember days long ago when we would go into Quebec and the lottery was clearly marked "Voluntary Tax".
I still play here, but less frequently.

One of the place where I go for lottery was the scene of an armed take-down by Federal marshalls, suspects in a shooting in May. They backed the car into the store (at 3:45 PM). Wasn't there, but that would be my "luck".

That's Malloy and Lamont for you. This state is just ridiculous with taxes. Always a new tax. NEVER cutting spending.
