Without a drink in your hand.

Lazy Sunday less then 2 months until Aruba so went on YouTube to see some Aruba videos.

Only looked at last few months and it was depressing. People filming their walks around empty streets in San Nicholas at mid-day, Downtown, people driving down empty roads from airport to Palm and Eagle Beach mid-day. The saddest was the one where the person filmed the streets/mall at night starting across from the Hilton down past Daniels, Hard Rock, Mall, Sapranos, Salt and Pepper. Bars are all closed, Restaurants looked to have maybe a dozen people.

Aruba needs us all.

I watched those as well. Very sad but hopefully the numbers will continue to go down and the island can start recovering

Here at a timeshare now, and yes it's very quiet. As someone who likes the quieter Aruba, I've got mixed feelings - I'm enjoying the lack of crowding, but of course worry about the businesses and workers. Everyone is putting on a brave face, the government has announced that employer & employee subsidies will continue through at least December, and restaurants continue to open earlier to accommodate the curfew hours. Everyone is just trying to hang on until things improve.

I think I will feel the same when I arrive in a few weeks. I will love the old, quieter Aruba that I remember from the 90's but I am also worried about a lot of our friends (who we have known for 15+ years) with businesses on the island who are struggling. It will definitely be a mixed emotion sort of a trip.

The video where the person starts down by the cruise ship docks tells it all. The thousands of people a day that filled downtown stores, casino's, tours, restaurants are no longer there or likely not coming back for a very long time.
