Thank you but I understand how timeshares work.

I think people should be contacting their timeshare(s) and ask what they are doing. Owners have to be flexible.

Hard to think that every timeshare is always booked 365 days a year and every room is taken so there are no options. I own points so I can book whenever there is availability for a room in my category. My friends own specific weeks and 50% of the time they don't stay their week.

The glass is half full or half empty. You decide

Before the island opened up, I contacted our fixed week timeshare.
In recent years, we had gone through the hassle of renting to individuals.
With all the uncertainty, I did not want to deal with it. How could I rent something that might not be available?
So I told our place that they could use them IF the island did open.
No response.

The maintenance fees went out. Already got the bill...due end of December, 2020.

It's late...hope this makes some sense to someone.

But that doesn't make any difference in this kind of situation. It makes no difference if 50% of the owners of weeks in the year don't show up - the resort still can't "take" those weeks and give them to people who couldn't come because the island was closed. So while it might be hard to believe that every room, 365 days of the year, is _booked_ and used, is it so much of a stretch to imagine that resorts that have been opened for a long time might not have much in terms of "inventory" that THEY own and can use to provide the affected owners...?

At least, that's the explanation of the fixed-week timeshares as I understand it, and I believe them...

I hear you bryanzs. If I owned weeks that I couldn't use this year due to Covid I would be on the phone to my timeshares booking company seeing when I can book in the future.

The AHATA predicts that maybe by the end of this year occupancy will be 40%. It will be years (if ever) until Aruba gets back to the old normal.

With only 60% of people saying they will take a vaccine once it is available the new normal for the rest will likely be Staycations

Tell your fixed week people to get re-booking. The great and powerful Arubajoey sees a lot of availability.

That puff of cool air I just felt must have been Hades freezing over - I agree with AJ. Although our February-March weeks are yet-to-be affected by the Chinee Viree, we have already informed Divi that we plan on moving them out to November 2021. The effervescently voluptuous Mrs. NH does not believe that she will yet be comfortable flying Winter/Spring of 2021. We found Divi very accommodating this way...
