Aruba is one of the most tourism dependent countries in the World. The economy of the island is 90 percent directly and indirectly dependent on tourism. With the Corona virus crisis at play, the government has decided to put Aruba on a lock down last week. This still leads to a total standstill of the economic engine of Aruba.

Juan Keyter made a video on March 21st 2020 of a serene Aruba without tourists. These are images of Aruba you have not seen before. It is as if the human health crisis has given nature the opportunity to recover and breathe. May we appreciate how blessed we are to live and enjoy Aruba.

First word that comes to mind: "Wow!"

So beautiful. So sad. How I wish I was there again. Crowded or not, I would go there in a heartbeat!

One of the most beautiful places on Earth and so lonely.

This has got to be punishment for something.... For what?.... Why else?

Thanx, Eddy.
I wish a speedy recovery and rebound for you and all your fellow Arubans.

wow, such beauty. hoping this gets contained quickly so recovery and healing can begin. not only on the island but maybe our nature will benefit from the isolation as well.

Eddy, I was thinking the same thing. This might be Mother Nature's way of renewing, letting the water and air clear...

It's nice to see how clean all the beaches are! Hopefully, when tourists return, they will keep them that clean.

Eddy, can you confirm a report that the island is going into a lockdown on Sunday?

I received an email from a business owner on Aruba that said the publicized March 31 date is when the government will convene to review all aspects of opening the island again. And that they would issue their ruling on April 1. Is that commentary accurate?

Thank you for posting the recent videos of your island. And thank you for maintaining your membership in this BB. Your contributions to this BB group are quite valuable.

From Rona:

Update: There are 28 confirmed cases on Aruba. Note that more tests are done, the more the confirmed cases will increase.
6 of the new cases were from one location, a "cluster", at "Respaldo" (Care center for mentally challenged). 5 of them were employees.
Most of new ones are mild, 2 have recovered.
Social distancing is essential.
New government decisions:
As of Sunday, all on Aruba will impose "shelter in place".
No one is allowed to leave the house.
Exceptions are for trips to: supermarket, restaurant takeaway/drive thru, doctor, pharmacy, or for an exercise activity (while keeping 2 meter distance from others).
Shelter in Place rule is for at least 2 weeks.
Specific details of Shelter in Place will be announced tomorrow.
Border will close again for local residents as of Sunday.
Curfew:
There will be new filters for exceptions to curfew, which are in process of being determined. This means they will reduce the type of jobs that can receive these exceptions. No details yet.

Thank you, Eddy.

If you hear anything, any updates to the government allowing tourists back on the island could you please post that info in here.

Until then, please protect yourself, your family, and all the other Aruban people and stay germ free by going by the protective rules issued. They are for everyone's benefit and protection.

Thank you, again!
