Am I the only one or do you folks see a jump in car rental prices in Aruba. True I don't travel until early December but like airfare (which looks like the same as last year) I like to try and lock in early as prices go up the closer to travel times.

Car is up about $70.00 over last year.

The rates (and taxes) have gone up on car rentals in recent years. We booked with Tropic for a 3-week rental in September - I think cost was around $540 for the 3 weeks. Recall that it used to be under $500 for 3 weeks.
I'll check the confirmation email tonight when I'm home.

I've never taken a bus in Aruba, but think I recall seeing somewhere that the fare was $2.30 one-way.

Joey-- Thanks for the reminder. I booked my week 51/52 flight a month ago but forgot to book Hans/Tropic. I took care of it today. Same rate as last year.

We rented for an extra day this year, but when I booked Tropic I do not think the price from last year was much changed.

Checked the email confirmation from Tropic:

Rate for the Hyundai Accent for 3 weeks: 520.00
License Fee: 7.00
$1.00 per day Govt. tax: 21.00
6% BBO Tax: 32.88

Total: 580.88

comet07,

$520.88 divided by 3 weeks. That's $173.63 per week.

I'm seeing $350+ for 13 days in early December right now.

Realized I had a typo - should be 580.88 - not 520.88 - that would be 193.62 per week
$520.88 divided by 3 weeks. That's $173.63 per week. Will correct the entry.

Yes, U.S. currency. Small bills preferred. Coins given in change will be in florins.

Bussing it is a popular option but make sure you have the exact bus schedule and the busses do not run after a certain hour at night. Also bus route may not run where you want to go.

last year i paid 500 for 17 days in november. the sales tax went from 3.5 to 6%. I havent booked this year yet and was thinking of maybe not renting for the entire stay. I like the freedom of being able to come and go but wondering if its worth it. there are days that the car just sits.
