After going to the Caribbean Cinemas last night (located in the Palm Beach Mall, which is near the Holiday Inn, behind the Paseo Herencia mall), we noticed that a new restaurant and bar had opened up. We'd seen them working on it for ages (I think it's been more than a year!), and were surprised to see that it was finally finished. I guess technically it's outside the mall, as it's literally in the parking lot  - so not so high on the "ambience" scale...

It turns out that it's another restaurant in the "Joe's" chain (Iguana Joe, Smokey Joe, Joe's Cantina), and may eventually be named Iguana Joe (like the downtown location). They're "soft" opened right now, using a pre-opening menu that combines dishes from all the other restaurants. The staff were very nice, and the dish I had (shrimp and pasta in aglio olio sauce) was very good.

So if you like the various Joes restaurants, there's now another one to try :-)

Looks like it's called Joe's Restaurant at Palm Beach Plaza: https://www.palmbeachplaza.com/listings ... estaurant/

There is also a Joe's Restaurant in Bonaire. Not sure if they're all related but...could be.

Yes, it's currently Joe's Restaurant, but the manager told me they might rename it Iguana Joe to make the connection with the downtown location clearer.

I'm pretty positive that the Bonaire restaurant isn't part of the same group...

Yes, it's all part of the same chain - Iguana Cantina, Smokey Joe, and Iguana Joes. Iguana Cantina is Mexican food; Smokey Joe's is bbq; Iguana Joe's is maybe "generic Caribbean"? This new restaurant will (at least initially) offer stuff from these other locations, I think, before forming their own specialty. The manager said this new location will also specialize in "Caribbean" food (jerk chicken, Trinidad curry, and local food like keshi yena).

I remember that not too long ago you could eat at either one of the restaurants and get a 10% discount at either of the others if you brought your receipt with you.
I think they did away with that about 2 years ago. Too bad.
We still eat at Smokey Joe's and Iguana Cantina every time we visit Aruba.

Went by Joes about three times so far and the place is dead. Does not seem like anything makes it at that location.
