I just received this from La Cabana today:

The excise duty increases are as follows:
Wine and Vermouth (made of grapes): Increase of 8%.
Cider (pear, apple, pineapple, honey): Increase of 333%.
Other ciders: Increase of 188%.
Tobacco products: Change from 57% to AFL 211.50 (US$ 118.82) per kg.
Distilled alcohol products: Increase of 44%.

Fortunately I don't see beer on there. Does anyone have more info?

Thanks,

Larry

If you type "increase in alcohol tax Aruba " in search on PC you will get the break down effective Jan 1, 2019 if anyone's interested or for that matter what it means . We read it 10 times and still haven't figured out what the increase (actual) will be aside from reading the figures posted !

Past December while at the US airport I walked into the Duty Free and almost bought two bottles of vodka. I said why carry the extra weight when I can get it in Aruba. Boy was that a mistake. The same vodka in Aruba was $30.00 more per bottle.

With this increase you folks mention I will stock up here in the US before I fly to Aruba.

How long till Aruba installs old US type Prohibition?

That's for US prices, I wonder if the new price is comparable to Canadian Duty Free prices? It is nice not to have to drag it on the plane.

Pretty soon, Aruba will tax itself out of the tourism market and go bankrupt.

These are increases on hectoliters. In reality there will be a price increase per liter from 0,33 florin (for wine) to 9,75 florin for liquor.

See https://www.overheid.aw/news/news_3809/ ... 39115.html

That would be about $0.20 on a bottle of wine (not a big deal) - but $5.56 on a bottle of liquor. Most of the prices for liquor in Aruba is already higher than in the USA.

Any idea on beer?

A case is already expensive enough. How much more will the tax be?

Beer is not mentioned in the taxes. If there would be an added tax, it would only be a few cents I guess.
