I only ask as it seems like this has well run its course.

Now it is suggested to dictate to merchants to be "required" to always have enough US money on hand for change which would be easier said than done in reality.

Bottom line....It's their country, it's their money, BE HAPPY THAT THEY ACCEPT OUR MONEY and we are not required to use florins.

Amen!

OMG...anyone else think it's time to close this thread?

Nah, not yet. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the original post was asking if anyone thought that the money exchange rate resulted in a net gain for Arubans and, if so, how much of a gain? I don't believe that it's far fetched to suggest that the Aruban people do gain. How much I don't really care but simple math can give us an idea. Take a reasonable presumption of exchange rate shrinkage per visitor visit per year (a), the total number of visitor visits per year (b), the total AUA residency (c) and the crude equation would be something like this:

(a*b)/c = $Aw gain per resident

So, if the exchange rate shrinkage is $Aw 1.00, and if the number of visitors is 1,000,000, and if the residency is 150,000, then the result would be +-$Aw 7.00 per resident.

The only real unknown is the exchange rate shrinkage but as the OP suggested it could add up!

Mark - correct - but the original poster and the question posed is also the same person now thinking merchants "MUST" always have sufficient US currency on hand at all times for change if US currency was used. USA people trying to dictate to the Arubans is what got me annoyed.

Two things as a result of my trip to Aruba these past 11 days and this thread.

I have now become more aware of Aruban money.

From now on when I give US $ and receive Florins back will i will take a moment to check the change and calculate as best I can if the amount is correct. If I am not sure I will ask the salesperson to explain.

I'm looking for am easy currency converter for my iPhone.
