Just checked it looks like Sinterklass will be in Aruba on December 5th. I know I can count on coal in my stocking again.

Yes, Sinterklaas will be there. He is arriving on the island very soon. Joey, if you were no good this year, he will take you to Spain.

Well, that’s what they tell children. I guess for adults going to Spain would not be that bad. Only thing is, you are transported there in a burlap sack.

I remember that down by the Marriott there were fireworks a few years ago.

Does Sinterklass arrive on the 5th or does he really come on the night of the 4th.

He arrives on 11/17 with the steamboat from Spain. The children can put their shoes with a treat for the horse of Sinterklaas at the fireplace. The black Peters will come through the chimney, take the treat and put some candy or a small gift in the shoe. Then the night of the 4th of december Sinterklaas brings a lot of gifts. The children have the 5th (the actual birthday of Sinterklaas) off to play with their gifts. Saint Nicolaas is also the guardian saint of the city of Amsterdam, by the way. A city with many treats for grown up children... :D

I keep a small book...I think it was aimed at children. It tells about "Black Pete". A modern day tale about the Sinterklass legend (and his helper) in the new world of Manhattan/New Amsterdam...1600's.
It is really a neat tale. Just tells about other cultures and the influence on USA today.

I do not, cannot move to AUA, but maybe I can dream about experiencing the island during the different holiday celebrations
