Just made reservations for next May 25 - June 1, 2019.
At the Hyatt for an ocean/pool view room.
Booked through Players Choice.
Cost is $3600, with buffet breakfast and taxes; no transfers or air (and no longer hotel credits)
Paid for the same room, etc. for this Dec. 8 -15, 2018 $2884.
Increase of about $100 per night.
Was told that "every thing is going up".
Will "eat" the cost next year because we are treating our son and daughter-in-law for their anniversary and have never been to Aruba.
But, we might be reconsidering our return for the future with the hotel costs going up and up.
BTW, I checked on line for the hotel itself and they list over $5000 for the same "package".
Is Aruba (or some of the hotels) going to price themselves out of future occupancy?

I think that is way too expensive. Renting a house with your own pool is much cheaper!

I would think that renting a timeshare would be a lot less.

Did you ask Players Choice for alternatives.

Based on a seven night stay that's $514.29 a day.

Call them back.

hotels are still taking advantage of the fact some of the other islands haven't recovered from the hurricane. so the repeat visitor gets gouged(i'm being nice). last year I paid more and got less and looking for next august the rate is up $40/nite. it's a bit of a turn-off.

That’s the rate for that room category, and I was told that they think it is going to go higher.
If it comes in lower, they will adjust downward .
Since I only had to leave a deposit, it won’t cost me any extra even if it does go up

Prices in December are always cheaper then May/June time frame. Just to let you know they are starting the adult pool in May 2019 not sure how the construction will effect the beach area and the rooms facing the Playa Linda during that time.
Been going to the Hyatt or Hilton a few times a year. I usually go only on points although last fall prices were so cheap I just paid at $199 a night including breakfast plus taxes. Prices for May might drop as it closer and with construction going on.

You could rent a two-bedroom suite at Playa Linda (next door) for half of that. You will have a full kitchen and a huge balcony with gorgeous views of the ocean.

Air fares are ridiculous, and cab fares are crazy.

Aruba is looking to price itself out of the market.

ArubaMike - another Hudson Valley person here. I just have to disagree about the airfare. I go to aruba a few times a year. Jetblue out of JFK and never pay over $400. In fact I just posted on another board I found tons of dates thru April where airfare was running $366. I went back in September when Jetblue ran a flash sale it was $80 going down and $177 coming home. I always fly on points but the fares are very good. I have been trying to get back to Baha Mar in the Bahamas for a weekend and Nassau is always more expensive then Aruba.

Just checked on non-stop flights from NY/NJ for January:

United - $720
JetBlue - $910
Delta - $1000

Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions.
RE: Riu. We want to have the freedom of going out to the many restaurants in the area, so the AI program would not work for us. My wife and I stayed there when they first opened and enjoyed it; but-again- the AI was not what we liked at the time.
We do like them in Cancun, D.R., and Jamaica, though.

We have stayed in all the hotels on Palm Beach except the Holiday Inn, Playa Linda, and Ritz. Even though the Hyatt is priced higher, we still like to stay there (until after next May, anyway). And we want to give our son and daughter-in-law a good experience by taking them to as many restaurants as can and also the “walk around “ experience of the high rise section

ArubaMikey - I am not sure what dates are you looking out but I have found tons of dates in January at and $372 $366 it looks like only the week NY regents where the group form NYC heads down to Aruba is higher priced. Even Saturday to Saturday is running in the $400's and one weekend in $300s.
