On Sept. 10 there was a lot of dark smoke coming from the north-end. DW first noticed it around 6:30 AM & heard the fire truck sirens. From CLBR, it was hard to determine exactly where it was. The smoke didn't stop until around 3:00 PM. One of our friends staying at CLBR said that the fire was at the Bird Sanctuary & was thought to be suspicious. But we didn't see anything written in the Aruba Today tourist newspaper (didn't think they'd report it), so we don't know any details - other than seeing that dark smoke most of the day. A few days later, DW talked to one of the beach attendants who said that the government considered the fire to be suspicious & was investigating.

If you check the Swamp Monkeys page, a few days ago someone had posted a link to an article with photos. Looks like it was quite the fire.

It was a huge fire that destroyed a large part of the Bubali Bird Santuary. The fire was deliberate. If you go to the facebook page of Aruba Bird Life, you find many information about it. Very sad that somebody did start this, probably out of greed.
