I'm having a senior moment and need some help/direction. Wasn't this the site where an individual, whom I believe lives on the island, had "published" (with occasional updates), a kind of all encompassing directory of what he felt was the best of the island's restaurants, sites, activities, etc.? It was a wonderful summary of so many topics and "opinions" that the author was kind enough to share and something that I thought could be found as an ongoing listing on this bulletin board. I was under the impression that this gentleman's thoughtful comments were well received by many people like myself who took advantage of this as a reference or guide on their visits to Aruba. I have friends visiting the island for the first time and thought this would have been a good source to introduce them to what was available to them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where this could be found? Thanks in advance for the help.

Jim

I guess that could either be Daniel Putkowski, who used to post here under the name of San Nic. You can find his directions and tips at the Bent Page (bentpage.net). Or you refer to Charles Smith, aka Arubakid, who has a great booklet (arubakid.com). Both are excellent starts of exploring the island.

I think you are referring to Aruba Kid. His website http://www.arubakid.com/

Thank you both for the quick reply. I think you hit the nail on the head with the information you gave me.

Thanks again,
Jim

Dan's turn by turn directions were great. Also enjoyed the commentary. Great vids. It was really these vids that got me venturing away from the tourista comfort zone.

He did great video reviews of new restaurants and out of the way places. Wonder what happened to him?

As far as I understand, he had enough of Aruba and moved on.

When I was at Charlies a few years back they told me they had not seen him for awhile as he was trying to get a movie made in Hollywood on one of his books. I was hoping he was successful as I would have enjoyed watching a movie based on Aruba

Dan posts periodically on FB but nothing since may. It looks like he never replies to anyone asking about the island. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife several times, great people. Its a shame because he really did give share alot of great info. I wish them well.

Dan always posted great videos around the island...and his books were all good reads.

A few years ago Dan posted here about an encounter he'd had on the island with a young woman, a waitress, in a restaurant he'd gone to. They conversed for quite some time and she told him quite a bit about her personal life & situation. It was interesting as his real life stories always were and he added his thoughts as he often did about the people he met. A couple of the regular male posters on here made some totally unnecessary and somewhat suggestive comments about the young woman and San Nic and her reasons for being so forthcoming with him and his reasons for finding her interesting. That did it for him. He was upset, angry and disappointed that a few had to turn it into something it absolutely was not. He left the board and never returned.

I must have missed that thread....very sorry to hear this. Bought both of his books and enjoyed them. I often wondered about his absence on the BB. Hope he and his wife are well.
