Yes, you read it right. Hooibergite. I learned a lot of things this last trip. Our son is studying to be a geologist at the University of Anchorage Alaska. Typically, I am looking in the jewelry stores at those lovely "rock's" I cannot afford! This time I found a real rock. I happened to go into the Silver Shop at LaCabana while hubby went to the casino and had an interesting conversation with the owner who showed me a rock which was collected at the base of Hooiberg. He said it had been named by a geologist after Hooiberg because it was first found there and believes it is only found a couple other places on the planet! I was so excited to get something that was original to our island and a treasure for our son. For you rock hounds out there it is a type of quartz diopside. I asked to purchase the rock, but he gave it to me instead (thanks Eduardo) and asked if my son would send him any information about the rock if he could find it, as there is not much available. I did some minor research, and true, not much available. When my son gets the stone, he will do some testing. Look for Eduardo to make some jewelry from it in the future.
Next time you go to Hooiberg, pick some up.
Thanks!

Interesting info Penny. I would be curious too what your son has to say about it.

Yes...
The "Hooibergiet" can only be found in ARUBA and in ICELAND.
Really awkward twins, don't you think.
