Now that Mio is out of business what are you using for secure Internet access? Does Setar sell a similar device?

Why did MIO go out of business? We have been very happy using MIO for at least the last 3 years.
What are the current options now that MIO is gone.
Does Setar have something?
Is there something better that drove MIO out?

MIO went out of business because they never paid there bill to the government. I have yet to find anything to replace MIO. I have read that there are a lot of open wifi zones around Aruba now but not secure.

From what I hear MIO devices cannot be activated using a data card from Digicel or Setar. Too bad, as a lot of us have them. I used a device from Xcom Global last year. Worked OK. But they closed their US operation. Tep wireless still offers a similar device. There are also other devices you can buy and then purchase a data sim card from a local provider. This year I might just go with the unsecure wifi from the resort and stay away from online banking etc.....should be safe enough for email-I have a separate gmail account that I can use.

OK - Thanks,
I may have to do the same.
Rely on unsecure wifi until something else comes along to fill the gap left be MIO.

If you are interested in securing your communications over wifi, you might consider using a VPN (virtual private network). Most reliable VPNs have clients that can be installed on your PC (Windows or Apple), and/or your iPhone and Android device.

For a comparison of VPNs (and a description of what VPNs are and how they work), you might look at this article from PC Magazine.
