Agreed,

They can't carry every type of currency just to please the tourists. It's very simple to figure the exchange rate. I just save up my change for later in our trip and use it before we leave. I make sure I carry large and small bills so I don't get much change back.

Consider it good fortune that most Arubans speak English to some degree!

Hello,..... it is a Dutch Island, not an American Island so maybe their currency is prevalent.

Some stores do give you money back in US Dollars. But they do not have US Coins, and you will get that in Florins.

At Ling & Sons Supermarket, if the Cashier doesn't have enough US Currency to give back as change, you may go to the Customer Service desk and they will have more US Currency in stock and gladly exchange it for you.

As I accumulate any Aruban change while we're there, I'll use it for tips for the baggers at the supermarkets (along with some US money). If we have any Aruban change left on the day we're leaving - I'll leave it for our maid (in addition to our tip). Less to carry going home.

Aruba florins are pegged to the US dollar. You do not lose value when you are given change in florins as long as you use the money while on the island.

How much could you possibly be "stuck with" at then end of a trip? No more than a few dollars worth of coins? Include it with whatever else you leave as a tip for housekeeping, or as a tip to the taxi driver. There are a number of things you can do with it. Apparently, you have never been to another foreign country. You will be "stuck with" a lot more in other countries.

We do the same thing as others have replied above.

The simplest way to not have to tote it home is to leave it for the housekeeper along with US money at the end of your week.

It is their official currency so it stands to reason that US change is not always available. Since we use a credit card for most purchases, we don't end up with that much in florins overall.

If you prefer to pay in cash, keep the change in your purse to use and not accumulate is what I would do.

I drop my Aruban change off at the donation box at the front desk at Costa Linda for the animal rescue.

There used to be a donation box at the airport for the Clown Doctors, which I used in the past. Not sure if it is still there.
