Aruba Is Dealing With A High Deflation Rate


December 16th 2012, Aruba.


ORNAJESTAD-The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 1.78 percent lower in
November compared to the previous month. Mainly lower energy and water
tariffs effective as of October have contributed to the deflation registered in
November. Thus far in 2012, prices for consumer goods and services have fallen
by 3.48 percent.

The average household paid less for energy last month. The average monthly
energy bill per household was of US$ 171.35 in November 2012, a decline of
US$ 31.30 from the previous month. The average monthly bill for water
consumption remained the same at US$ 76.56 per household.

Prices of household items have increased. Mainly furniture and carpet registered
an increase of 2.14 percent last month. Prices on food products rose slightly by
0.04 percent in November 2012.
