Torrential Rain Causing Flash Floods Is Very Unsual In The Month Of March For Aruba

March 10th 2012, Aruba.

SAN NICOLAS-Heavy rain battered the eastern half of the island in the early hours of Friday afternoon surprizing islanders. Mainly
San Nicolas and Savaneta had to deal with flash floods as a consequence of the sudden torrential downpour. The western half of Aruba
including the resort district remained mostly dry. It rained heavy for approximately 30 minutes before easing to moderate rainfall
according to the inhabitants of San Nicolas.

The drainage system in Aruba's second largest city could not process the large amount of water that fell in a short period of time
causing flooding on many streets and a few homes. The flash floods caused slow moving traffic on the highway from Oranjestad to
San Nicolas. The further towards San Nicolas the more congested traffic became.

March is considered the driest month of the year for Aruba with an average of 0.2 inches of rain. It is very unusual to see rainfall in
such amounts in March. There is no weather station in San Nicolas that measures the amount of rain that fell there. The weather
station at the airport located in the western half of the island registered 0 inches of rain on Friday.

The weather center in Aruba is forecasting a gradual diminishing of the winds in the weekend. The increase of cloudiness will
produce a couple of showers from time to time over parts of the island locally these showers can be heavy.
