Many Fatal Accidents On Sasaki Highway In The Last Years

March 6th 2012, Aruba.

Speed meter placed on Sasaki highway

ORANJESTAD-A speed meter was placed last Monday on Sasaki highway after passing the traffic lights at
the inner section of Sun Plaza Mall. The speed meter will register the speed of each passing car on the
highway. The monitor will display the actual speed of the driver, and will give a warning if the driver
exceeds the speed limit. Sasaki highway has a maximum speed limit of 80KM per hour.

Sasaki highway is Aruba's first and only four lane highway that connects the island's hotel corridor with the
capital Oranjestad. In the last years many fatal traffic accidents have occurred on the highway most of
which are attributed to high speed.

Law enforcement officers are constantly fining drivers for driving too fast on the highway. Authorities are
now hoping that the speed meter will capture the attention of the driver on how fast they are driving, and
to adapt their speed when exceeding the maximum limit.
