78 Percent Of The Average Annual Rainfall Fell In The First Half Of 2011, And The Rainy Has Not Started

ORANJESTAD-According to the climate data report released by the Meteorological Center , Aruba
experienced an exceptionally wet first half of 2011. The weather station at Queen Beatrix
International Airport registered 12.5 inches of rain in the first 6 months of 2011. That is nearly
three times the average rainfall of 4.2 inches for that same period. The Meteorological Center
registered an accumulated amount of 202 hours of rainfall, and 51 days of precipitation of which 7
days with thunder in the first 6 month of 2011.

A total amount of 3.9 inches of rain fell in January 2011 (average is 1.5 inches of rain), February
2.6 inches of rain (average 0.7 inches of rain), March 2 inches of rain (average is 0.3 inches of
rain), April 0.1 inches of rain (average is 0.5 inches of rain), May 2 inches of rain (average is 0.5
inches of rain), and June 1.8 inches of rain (average is 0.7 inches of rain). Aruba received 78
percent of the total amount of rainfall in an average year in the first 6 months of 2011. The rainy
season in the latter part of this year still has to begin.

The last 10 years have been rather wet for the island with the exception of the year 2002, 2003,
and 2009. The 1990's were overall very dry years for the island. Listed below is a list of the total
amount of rainfall registered on the island, and the corresponding year. The long term average
annual rainfall in Aruba is 16.1 inches.


Year 2001, total rainfall 5.4 inches.
Year 2002, total rainfall 8.6 inches.
Year 2003, total rainfall 20 inches.
Year 2004, total rainfall 35.7 inches.
Year 2005, total rainfall 30.7 inches
Year 2006, total rainfall 24 inches.
Year 2007, total rainfall 19.8 inches.
Year 2008, total rainfall 30.3 inches.
Year 2009, total rainfall 13 inches.
Year 2010, total rainfall 35 inches.
Year 2011, total rainfall until June, 12.5 inches.
