Aruba's Tourism Industry Is Growing Faster Than Anticipated

August 20th 2011, Aruba.

ORANJESTAD-Aruba's tourism industry has done very well in the first 6 months of 2011. The island
welcomed 434,287 stay-over arrivals from January through June 2011, an increase of 5.9 percent
compared to the first 6 months of 2010. The government had previously anticipated a growth rate
of between 2.5 to 3 percent in stay-over arrivals for 2011, considering the challenges the
generating markets are facing with their economies.

With the exception of March 2011, every month has shown an increase in stay-over arrivals.
Remarkable is the 13.1 percent increase in June 2011 compared to June 2010, to a new record
number of 68,136 stay-over arrivals. June is considered one of the least busy months of the year.
June 2011 was considered an unusual busy month to the likes of a regular high season month.

The main markets that have contributed to the growth in stay-over arrivals are Canada, Europe,
and South America. The number of stay-over arrivals from the United States, the island's main
generating market, fell by 1 percent in the first 6 months of 2011 compared to the same period
last year, to a total of 285,180 American stay-over visitors. The number of Canadians visiting
Aruba is up by 14.5 percent to 25,170 stay-over arrivals. The number of Europeans is up by 10
percent, to 37,720 stay-over arrivals. Visitors from other parts of the World mainly South America
rose up by 31.1 percent, to 86,217 stay-over arrivals.
