A Few Schools Have Not Been Renovated For Decades

August 17th 2011, Aruba.

ORANJESTAD-Students on the island have started off the new school year 2011/2012 this week
with a doses of positivism. Many students will enter completely renovated class rooms, in a
pleasant and motivated environment to study. Many teachers have smiles on their faces, as their
schools have completely been renovated this summer. Some schools have waited for years, even
decades for renovation. The Minister of Justice and Education Arthur Dowers has made it a priority
to have all schools renovated, and to improve the quality of school material and education
provided to students.

During an interview with the press, Prime Minister Mike Eman spoke on how he has made it a
priority to improve and renovate the quality of life in Aruba since his government took office in
2009."The quality of life includes many aspects of life in Aruba. The renovation and adequate
maintenance of neighborhoods, recreational areas, sports, and parks. However, the most essential
in the development of the youth on the island, is education. The educational infrastructure was
neglected in the last decade. Contrary to the latter, the vision of this government is an inclusive
grand effort to ensure the maintenance and renovation of the education infrastructure of Aruba,"
said Eman.

The government has renovated 20 schools in the past months. This was done thanks to the joined
effort of the government, The Department of Education, school staff, and the small contractors
who have all done their utmost to get the schools renovated in time for the new school year. The
schools were repainted, roof fixed, electricity and air conditioning repaired, window frames replaced
and made burglary proof. The remaining schools in Oranjestad, San Nicolas, Noord, and Santa
Cruz will be renovated in the months ahead.
